If you’re planning to explore the beautiful island of Anguilla by rental car, one of the first things you’ll need is an Anguilla Temporary Driver’s Licence. The good news is that obtaining one is quick, affordable and can usually be arranged by your car rental company when you collect your vehicle.

At Gumbsie Car Rental, we take care of the process for you, allowing you to spend less time on paperwork and more time enjoying your holiday.

Do I Need an Anguilla Temporary Driver’s Licence?

Yes.

All visitors driving in Anguilla with a valid foreign driver’s licence are required to obtain a temporary Anguilla driver’s licence before driving on the island. Your home country’s licence remains necessary, but it must be accompanied by the local temporary permit while you are driving.

Temporary Driver’s Licence Fees

There are currently two temporary licence options available for visitors:

Licence TypeCost (USD)Validity
Short Stay Temporary LicenceUS$15.00Valid for 3 days
Standard Temporary LicenceUS$25.00Valid for 3 months

The 3-day licence is ideal for cruise passengers, day visitors or anyone making a short visit to Anguilla. If you’re staying longer, the 3-month licence offers excellent value and covers the vast majority of holiday stays.

What Do You Need?

Obtaining your temporary licence is simple. Just provide:

  • A valid driver’s licence from your home country.
  • Your passport or government-issued photo identification.
  • The applicable temporary licence fee.

Our team will prepare your temporary licence before or during vehicle collection, making the process quick and hassle-free.

Can I Use an International Driving Permit?

Many visitors ask whether they need an International Driving Permit (IDP).

In most cases, a valid driver’s licence from your home country is sufficient, as long as you also purchase the required Anguilla Temporary Driver’s Licence. Even if you hold an International Driving Permit, you will still need the local Anguilla permit to legally drive on the island.
